Optical Coherance Tomography (OCT)
The OCT is a state of the art instrument and is the gold standard in the diagnosis and management of ocular pathology. The test is painless, non-invasive and gives the doctor a wealth of information about your eyes. OCT testing involves a laser scan into the depths of particular parts of the eye. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve that causes progressive damage to the nerve. OCT testing determines the extent of thinning of the nerve tissue and helps monitor any further damage with extreme accuracy. Wet Macular Degeneration is a retinal disease that causes fluid accumulation within the layers of the retina. OCT testing helps determine where the fluid is and the amount accumulated. In addition to these common conditions, the OCT is also extremely useful in the detection of any retinal changes.
Visual Field Testing
The Visual Field Tester is an instrument used to measure the sensitivity of your central and peripheral vision. This subjective test can vary from 5 minutes to 15 minutes per eye. The test involves small flashing lights in various areas of your visual field with the patient responding when they see the flash. Glaucoma reduces peripheral vision sensitivity in certain areas (usually unknown to the patient) and can eventually lead to tunnel vision or complete vision loss if undetected. Visual field testing quantifies the size of the visual field loss as well as the depth of the loss helping the doctor diagnose and manage glaucoma. Certain neurological conditions as well as medications can also cause patterns of visual field loss.
Contact Lens Exam
Contact lenses come in a wide variety of designs, materials and sizes. The goal of a contact lens exam is to find the most appropriate lenses for your comfort, vision needs, and eye health. The exam also assists the optometrist in identifying and minimizing any risks or limitations associated with contact lens wear.

A contact lens exam typically occurs after a routine eye examination has determined your general eye health status and vision correction needs. Additional tests, not part of the routine eye examination, will be conducted to determine the lenses that are most appropriate for you. These tests are not government insured and a contact lens fitting fee may be charged.
